Saturday, the 4th Ippei and I wanted to go fishing, but right before we were going to head over to the fishing hole, he called and discovered that the place had been closed for 4 years! It was raining anyway, so we decided to go to Kuramadera (鞍馬寺) instead. It was raining, but still very scenic. Very beautiful and quiet. |

We also had my lab go-away party. It was at an Italian place walking distance from the campus. They gave me a beautiful album too.

Friday 10th – Sunday 12th
Ippei and I visited Ojiichan and Obaachan for the weekend, and Toko-obachan drove us back to Kyoto in time for church on Sunday.
Later on Sunday, we met Ippei and his parents in Uji to show them the lab and go to dinner in the city.

The next week was full of wrapping things up at lab and getting ready to leave. I took a quick trip to Mie from the 14-15th and Ippei coordinated a smaller farewell lunch for me at the curry place close to lab. Okuda-san, Takaya-san, Shin-san, Louvy, Prakash and Ippei were there. The 15th was also my very last day in lab. For the weekend from the 17-18th, Ippei and I went to a conference in Kobe. We almost didn’t make it since a typhoon was coming in! That night, we had dinner with Jamila (the student from Afghanistan who came over when I had the farewell dinner for Heidie at my place), Louvy, and Joel, who is her SO.
Sunday, they had a special farewell time for me at church where they handed me a mike box and opened the floor to questions. I wasn’t as grilled as I was fearing, so that was nice.
The 20th, Ippei and I went to Toufukuji (東福寺) for the early afternoon. It was so. Hot. I then finished packing at the last minute and we headed to the airport where Mr. and Mrs. Takashima were waiting. We had dinner, and I suppose the rest is history.
I spent the next week in San Jose and Berkeley, visiting people who I hadn’t seen for a long time.
The next week I spent at home, visiting even more people who I hadn’t seen for a long time!
